MDaemon 10.x: SecurityPlus Installation Guide

SecurityPlus Installation Guide

SecurityPlus for MDaemon
Installation and Configuration Guide
MDaemon's SecurityPlus plug-in offers a powerful solution to the growing problem of email-borne viruses by halting viruses on all inbound and outbound email at the server before it's passed on to client PCs. If desired, SecurityPlus can even block inbound messages that are infected without accepting them on the server!

Installation and configuration takes less than 5 minutes and it automatically keeps its virus database up to date at scheduled intervals that you can control. Notification of received viruses is fully customizable as are the actions to be taken upon detection of a virus. The Urgent Update service, available for free from Alt-N Technologies, will instruct your SecurityPlus for MDaemon to update signatures automatically if a severe new virus threat arises.

Yearly subscription prices are an extremely good value and this add-on to MDaemon is a must have for all MDaemon installations.

Configuring a signature update schedule

You can control how often it updates its virus signatures by doing the following in the MDaemon console:
  1. Click Setup.
  2. Click Event Scheduling...
  3. Select Schedule on the left of the window, under AntiVirus Updates.
  4. Choose what day you wish the schedule to run on, or select Every day to have the schedule run every day.
  5. Enter the start-time and end-time of the schedule under Starting at... and Ending at... This should be in 24-hour time (ie, 9:00 for 9am, 13:00 for 1pm, 15:00 for 3pm).
  6. Set how many intervals the schedule should run during the above hours by entering the number of minutes between intervals in Recurring every... For example, if you want to check for viruses every hour, enter 60 in this field.
  7. Click Add.
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 7 if you wish to add more schedules.
  9. Click OK.

It is recommended to let SecurityPlus check for updates every 24 hours. This should be enough, although many people choose to schedule an update every 4 hours.

You may also access these options from the SecurityPlus icon in the Windows system-tray by right-clicking and choosing Open Update Scheduler...

It is also highly recommended that you subscribe to the free 'Urgent Updates' feature. To do this, follow these instructions from the MDaemon console:

  1. Click Setup.
  2. Click Event Scheduling...
  3. Select AntiVirus Updates on the left of the window.
  4. Check Activate urgent updates.
  5. Click OK.
