How to add members to a mailing list in MDaemon

This article describes the necessary steps to add members to a list in MDaemon.

From the MDaemon menu bar:

  1. Click Lists
  2. Click Edit
  3. Click on the list name you want to edit
  4. Click Ok
  5. Click Members

From this point there are three ways to add members

Method 1:

  1. In the New member email field type the member's e-mail address
  2. If desired, type the user's full name in the New member real name field
  3. Select the radio button for the level of posting access you wish to grant
    • Normal: Users set to Normal will receive list mail and can post to the list
    • Digest: Users set to Digest can post to the list, but instead of receiving each message separately, receive a Digest version containing multiple messages. Requires Digest support to be enabled on the Digest tab of the mailing list editor
    • Read only: Users set to Read only cannot send messages to the list, but will receive a copy of messages sent to the list
    • Post only: Users set to Post only can send messages to the list, but will not receive copies of messages sent to the list
  4. Click the Add button
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for additional entries
  6. Click Ok

Method 2 (local accounts only):

  1. Click the button beside the 'New member email' field
  2. Click the box beside each account you want to add to the list members
  3. Click Ok
  4. Each selected account is added with Normal list access
  5. To change access level, click an entry in the member list
  6. Click the appropriate Toggle button below the member list window
  7. Click Ok

Method 3:

  1. Click the Import button
  2. Browse to the location of your CSV (comma separated values) file
  3. Click Open
  4. Click Yes to the 'MDaemon will use the following as the baseline for the import process' message
  5. Click Ok on the Information dialog
  6. Click Ok

In the CSV file, each entry must be on its own line and all of its fields must be separated by commas. The first line of the file (the baseline) must list the names of the fields and the order in which they appear in the remaining lines. One of the fields must be called 'Email' and contain email addresses, and you can have an optional field called 'FullName' containing the list member's name. All other fields will be ignored by the importer.

For example:

'Email', 'FullName', 'Address', 'telephone'

'user01@example.com', 'Blake Smith', '295 Phillip Street', '519.555.0177'

  • Imported members do not receive the list welcome packet (if any)
  • The importer will not check for member duplicates
  • Imported members default to Normal posting access
