MDaemon 13.5.x: How to restore the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) database from a backup

This article explains how to restore the BES database from a backup.

In order to restore the BES database, you will need to stop the BES services, WorldClient, WebAdmin, and finally MDaemon. 

You can stop the BES services from the MDaemon console: 

  1. Click the Setup menu
  2. Click Mobile Device Management 
  3. Expand BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  4. Click Status
  5. Disable Enable BlackBerry Enterprise Server

To stop WebAdmin and WorldClient from the MDaemon console:

  1. Right click WorldClient: Active on the left pane and click Toggle Active/Inactive 
  2. Right click WebAdmin: Active on the left pane and click Toggle Active/Inactive

If you are running MDaemon as an application, you can stop MDaemon from the console:

  1. Click the File menu
  2. Stop MDaemon

If you are running MDaemon as a service, you will need to stop the MDaemon service from the Windows Services Management Console:

  1. Click the Windows Start Menu
  2. Click Run…
  3. Type services.msc 
  4. Click OK 
  5. Right Click on MDaemon and click Stop

You can verify that all services stopped successfully from the services application. 

Once you have verified that all of the services have stopped successfully, we can run the BESRestore application. 
Note: This process will restore the MDaemon BES database from a backup file. All existing data in the CURRENT database will be lost!

  1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the \MDaemon\App\ directory
  2. Double click on BESRestore.exe (If BESRestore.exe does not automatically launch, ensure you have SQL Server (MDaemon), and SQL Server Browser services started via the Windows Services applet.) 
  3. Click Browse 
  4. Select the backup file you wish to restore
  5. Click Open 
  6. Click Restore Now 
  7. When completed, a dialogue box will display the message: MDaemon BES database successfully restored, please restart system services
  8. Click OK

You can now restart the system services:

  1. Click the Windows Start Menu | Programs | MDaemon | Start MDaemon
  2. If WorldClient has a red gear on the left pane, Right Click WorldClient: Inactive on the left pane and click Toggle Active/Inactive 
  3. If WebAdmin has a red gear on the left pane, Right Click WebAdmin: Inactive on the left pane and click Toggle Active/Inactive 
  4. Click the Setup menu
  5. Click Mobile Device Management 
  6. Expand BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  7. Click Status
  8. Enable Enable BlackBerry Enterprise Server

This feature is only available in MDaemon Pro.
