Switching a secondary domain to primary and the primary domain to secondary

The process to perform this function changed with the release of MDaemon 13.5.0.  

This article reviews how to change a secondary domain to a primary one in both instances.

MDaemon versions 13.5.0 and above:

  1. Select Setup
  2. Select Domain Manager


  3. Select Domain Manager on the left.
  4. Choose the domain to be designated the default domain.
  5. Click Make the currently selected domain the new default domain.


  6. Click Yes to confirm selection


  7. Click Apply
  8. Click OK

 

MDaemon versions 13.5.0 and below: 

Shut down MDaemon and create a backup of the entire \MDaemon\App\ directory:

  1. Click the Windows Start button
  2. Click Programs
  3. Click MDaemon
  4. Click Stop MDaemon
  5. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the \MDaemon\ directory and ensure you have a backup of the \MDaemon\App\ directory

Update the Domains.dat file:

  1. Using Windows Explorer navigate to the \MDaemon\App\ directory and open Domains.dat using Windows Notepad
  2. You will notice the secondary domain that you are looking to convert to the primary domain listed in the Domains.dat similar to this:

    [example.com]
    FQDN=domain123.example.com
    IP=192.0.3.0
    Bind=No
    MaxInactive=0
    MaxMessage=0
    MaxMessageAge=0
    MaxDeletedIMAPMessageAge=0
    RecurseIMAP=No
    EnableAntiVirus=Yes
    EnableAntiSpam=Yes

  3. Update ‘example.com’ to the primary domain name that you are looking to convert to a secondary domain. Similar to the below example:

    [domain.com]
    FQDN=domain123.domain.com
    IP=192.0.3.0
    Bind=No
    MaxInactive=0
    MaxMessage=0
    MaxMessageAge=0
    MaxDeletedIMAPMessageAge=0
    RecurseIMAP=No
    EnableAntiVirus=Yes
    EnableAntiSpam=Yes

  4. Click the File menu within Windows Notepad
  5. Click Save

Update the MDaemon.ini file:

  1. Using Windows Explorer navigate to the \MDaemon\App\ directory and open MDaemon.ini using Windows Notepad
  2. Locate the following key:

    [Domain]
    DomainName=domain.com

  3. Update ‘domain.com’ with the secondary domain that you are looking to convert to a primary domain. Similar to the below example:

    [Domain]
    DomainName=example.com

  4. Click the File menu within Windows Notepad
  5. Click Save

Start MDaemon:

  1. Click the Windows Start button
  2. Click Programs
  3. Click MDaemon
  4. Click Start MDaemon
