MDaemon 13.6: Configuring SMTP Authentication on the MDaemon server and client

MDaemon can be configured to force SMTP Authentication when a sender claims to be a local user. This feature helps prevent spammers from sending as the local MDaemon users without authenticating. If this feature isn't enabled, a spammer would only have to know a local user's email address in order to send messages as that user. Use this article to configure MDaemon to force SMTP Authentication if the sender claims to be from a local account.

From the MDaemon console:

  1. Select Security
  2. Select Security Settings
  3. Expand Sender Authentication
  4. Select SMTP Authentication
  5. Select Authentication is always required when mail is from local accounts
    • Do not select ...unless messsage is to a local account
  6. Select Apply
  7. Select OK

With SMTP Authentication enabled on the server, the local sending clients will need to be configured to send messages using SMTP Authentication.
