MDaemon 13.5.x: Configuring Attachment Linking for outbound messages

MDaemon now supports attachment linking for outbound messages. In the past this feature was restricted to incoming messages only. A new option has been added to enable this on a per-user basis. Use this article to configure Attachment Linking for outbound messages.

From the MDaemon console:

  1. Select Accounts
  2. Select Edit Accounts
  3. Select the account being configured to use outbound Attachment Linking
  4. Select OK
  5. Select Attachments
  6. Click Use Attachment linking feature
  7. Check Extract attachments from outbound messages also
  8. Select OK

The option only works in conjunction with Attachment Linking so that overall system must also be enabled and the user configured to use Attachment Linking. When the user sends an email, Attachment Linking will extract the file, store it, and replace it with a URL that you can customize. Also, a new control has been added which allows you to specify the maximum number of days that any attachment will be stored. As part of the daily cleanup event MDaemon will remove any file found to be older than the specified number of days from the root attachment folder and all sub-folders thereof. This only works when you are using the default root attachment folder which is \Attachments\. It does not work if you customize the attachment folder to point elsewhere. This option is disabled (set to 0) by default to preserve existing behavior. See the user's manual for complete details on Attachment Linking.
