MDaemon 13: How to create spam filters in WorldClient

There are two methods to set up WorldClient to filter spam messages to a certain folder: one that will add an IMAP filter to all accounts on the server so that any spam message will be routed to the local recipient's Junk Email folder, and the other being users setting up their own rule, if they wish to use a different folder or perform a different action on spam messages.

You may filter messages that are considered spam by MDaemon's spam-filter, or by the DNS blacklist feature.

Within the MDaemon User Interface

To enable filtering of messages considered spam by the spam-filter:

  1. Select Security
  2. Select Spam Filter
  3. Within the Spam Filter section, select Options
  4. Select Move spam into user's IMAP spam folder automatically
  5. Select Yes in the dialog-box that appears asking to create the filter in everyone's account
  6. Select OK

To enable filtering of messages that fail a DNS blacklist check, do the following:

  1. Select Security
  2. Select Spam Filter
  3. Expand DNS-BL
  4. Select Options
  5. Check Auto-filter black-listed mail into user's spam folder
  6. Select Yes in the dialog-box that appears asking to create the filter in everyone's account
  7. Select OK

By logging into WorldClient, clicking on Options | Filters, and modifying the rule(s), users can change the destination of spammed or blacklisted IPs emails.

Additional Comments

Note: This will enable users to access messages in other folders. If your users are using POP, enabling this option is not recommended. POP is limited to collecting messages in the user's inbox only. Since these messages would be routed to the Junk Email or a custom email folder, the POP client wouldn't be able to collect from that folder.
