BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) Attachment Service no longer works after changing the MDaemon mac

This article explains how to resolve Attachment Service Not Found error on BES enabled smartphones after a machine name change

  1. Download and install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express:
    1. Download the appropriate (standard or x64) version from the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express website.
    2. Double click the downloaded SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi installer
    3. Click Next
    4. Enable I Accept the terms in the license agreement
    5. Click Next
    6. Type your Name: and Company: in the corresponding fields
    7. Click Next
    8. Click Next
    9. Click Install
    10. Click Finish
  2. Launch Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express and copy the incorrect machine name values:
    1. Click the Windows Start button
    2. Click Programs
    3. Click Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    4. Click SQL Server Management Studio Express
    5. Click Connect on the Connect to Server dialog (The defaults will allow you to connect to the database automatically)
    6. Within the Object Explorer, Expand Databases
    7. Expand BESMgmt
    8. Expand Tables
    9. Right Click dbo.BASServiceInstanceData
    10. Click Open Table
    11. Click within the Data field on ServiceInstanceID 13
    12. Click the Edit menu
    13. Click Select All
    14. Click the Edit menu
    15. Click Copy
    16. Minimize the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express application
  3. Find and Replace the old machine name with the new machine name:
    1. Click the Windows Start button
    2. Click Programs
    3. Click Accessories
    4. Click Windows Notepad
    5. Click the Edit menu
    6. Click Paste
    7. Click the Edit menu
    8. Click Replace…
    9. Within the Find what: field, type the old machine name
    10. Within the Replace with: field, type the new machine name
    11. Click Replace All
    12. Click the Edit menu
    13. Click Select All
    14. Click the Edit menu
    15. Click Copy
    16. Exit the Windows Notepad
  4. Paste the correct contents within the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express application:
    1. Maximize the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express application
    2. Click within the Data field on ServiceInstanceID 13
    3. Click the Edit menu
    4. Click Select All
    5. Click the Edit menu
    6. Click Paste
    7. Click the File menu
    8. Click Save All
    9. Click the File menu
    10. Click Exit
  5. In order for the changes to take effect, you will need to restart BlackBerry services:
    1. Click the Windows Start button
    2. Click Run…
    3. Type ‘services.msc
    4. Right Click BlackBerry Attachment Service
    5. Click Restart
    6. Right Click BlackBerry Controller
    7. Click Restart
