(FAQ) MDaemon 11.x: How can I restrict who can email certain users on my domain?

How can I restrict who can email certain users on my domain?

If you'd like to only allow specific addresses to email a MDaemon account, you may do so in the Account Editor's Restrictions tab. This is typically useful if you have children's email accounts hosted on MDaemon and want to grant a few addresses the right to email the children, and refuse messages (or route them to the postmaster, or bounce them) from anyone else.

To configure the 'allowed' addresses for the MDaemon account:

  1. Click Accounts
  2. Click Edit Account...
  3. Expand the domain that the account you wish to edit exists in
  4. Select the account you wish to edit
  5. Click OK
  6. Select Restrictions on the left
  7. Enable This account cannot receive messages from the outside world
  8. To add an address that you'd like to allow to send emails to this user, enter the address under New address
  9. Click Add.
  10. Repeat steps 9 and 10 for each address you'd like to allow to email this user
  11. To determine how to handle messages to this user from addresses not on the allowed list, use the Messages from unauthorized sources should be... pull-down menu. You can refuse, bounce, or forward these messages to the postmaster.
  12. Click OK.

If you select to send these messages to the postmaster, the postmaster can then 'approve' and forward the message to the restricted account, or simply delete the message.

Note that on the same tab you may set up similar restrictions for addresses that the MD account may send to. The steps are identical to the above.
