MDaemon is running but there is no envelope in the system tray

The MDaemon icon will not show up if you are running MDaemon as a service and accessing the machine via Terminal Services in versions of Windows prior to 2008 and Vista.

If you are running Windows 2008 or Vista, those platforms no longer allow services to interact with the desktop, due to the design of those operating systems. The main MDaemon console runs in an inaccessible hidden window.

There are a few options to configure the server in this scenario:

Option 1 (MDaemon 9.5+): You may use a 'Configuration session' to edit the MDaemon settings. To do this:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Program Files.
  3. Click MDaemon.
  4. Click Start MDaemon.

Option 2 (for MDaemon 9.0x or below): If you are using MDaemon 6.0 - 9.0x, use MDaemon Ghost. MDaemon Ghost is the exact same GUI as the server itself, but it is separated from the service engine so you can access it with Terminal Services.

To run MDaemon Ghost:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Program Files.
  3. Click MDaemon.
  4. Click Ghost MDaemon.

MDaemon's Ghost session will start and you will see a green envelope in the system tray. Double click this if needed to bring up the Ghost window.
