Alt-N Technologies
visits South America
Last month, CEO Arvel Hathcock, EVP Jerry Donald, and Director of Marketing Kevin Beatty traveled to Argentina and Brazil to support channel partner events. The team presented an overview of SecurityGateway for Exchange/SMTP Servers to the Microsoft Users Group in Buenos Aries. The event was arranged by iSoftland, an Alt-N Technologies’ reseller partner. The event was a success and was attended by over 50 Microsoft administrators and resellers. |
In Sao Paulo, Brazil, Arvel spoke to about 75 executives and decision makers at the 2008 IT Brazil Intelligence Conference. His discussion on Emerging Technologies in Email Security was well received. Brazil is one of the fastest growing IT markets in the world. Consequently, the audience was very interested to understand what email authentication and security techniques have been integrated into Alt-N Technologies’ products and also curious about what ongoing security measures would be needed to address the emerging threats to email communications. The event was sponsored by Alt-N Technologies’ distribution partner, HENIQ. While in Brazil, the team also visited with customers like the University of Sao Paulo.

Tips for Enhanced Web Mail (WorldClient) Performance
To maximize the desktop-like experience of WorldClient’s LookOut theme, please consider the following:
- Keep up to date with the latest version of the browser you prefer to use. There is a speed competition taking place between Firefox, Safari, Opera, and the new Google Chrome meaning that you could get a massive improvement in performance just by upgrading. Users of Internet Explorer (IE) 7 will notice a great improvement over IE6, as well.
|
 |
- Consider the browsers available to you – switching from Internet Explorer 6 to Firefox 3 could speed your login by a significant amount due to the different architecture of the two browsers and their respective JavaScript engines. The LookOut theme’s JavaScript code is optimized for efficiency, but a faster JavaScript engine will enhance the overall speed of the application.
- Evaluate the number of messages that you have in your inbox. A heavily laden inbox could slow your login time as the number of messages that have to be scanned on the server can impact login speed.
- Run MDaemon’s mail agent application, ComAgent, to keep an active WorldClient session and use it to log in to get an even faster experience.
- Setup IMAP filters to move messages into other folders, thereby enabling faster logins. This reduces the load of managing messages that arrive in the inbox in the first place.
- Additionally, strategies like those advocated by Inbox Zero can help you keep your inbox free from clutter, as well as help improve web mail loading performance.
- Consider changing your messages per page setting to the minimum setting that fills your screen. If you have more than 50 messages per page you may be slowing the client-server interaction time without any real added benefit.
