Internet Messaging Leaders Fight Email Fraud
Alt-N recently hosted an important event that promotes the technology designed to combat email fraud and phishing scams. For two days in late October, a group of dedicated engineers from as far away as France and Japan and representing 20 leading ISPs, messaging product companies, and industry associations gathered to test DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) - an email authentication standard recently approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). DKIM permits an organization to add a digital "fingerprint" to outgoing email. Receivers can then validate the message using the organization's domain name, such as "example.com".
MDaemon was one of the first email servers to implement the DKIM authentication standard, and continues to pioneer efforts in email security technology. To learn more about the event and some of the companies that attended, read more here.

Did You Know?
MDaemon Can Help Protect Your Brand!
According to the Anti-Phishing Working Group, in June 2007 there were a total number of 31,709 unique phishing websites. Financial Service companies continue to be the most targeted industry sector at 95.2 percent of all attacks during June of this year. Adopting email authentication standards is an important step in protecting customers, partners, employees, and your brand from email fraud, according to Massachusetts-based analyst firm, IDC. The DKIM authentication technology standard is an important feature because it uses a digital "fingerprint" when sending a message, which can later be verified to ensure your message has not been tampered with.
Alt-N Technologies has helped to pioneer the DKIM authentication technology standard and has been deploying it in the MDaemon Email Server since version 8. It is just another way we are working to deliver trusted messaging solutions to our customers.
MDaemon now supports sub-addressing!
Sub-addressing allow you to have messages delivered into folders automatically without the need to setup filtering rules.
The syntax is: "mailbox+folder@domain". So, for example, you sign up for a mailing list or set your reply address to "arvel+ietf@altn.com" messages to this address will route directly into arvel@altn.com's "ietf" IMAP folder (assuming that folder has been created).
For complete information, please refer to the MDaemon release notes.
WorldClient, a full-featured webemail client right at your finger tips.
WorldClient is MDaemon's built-in webmail email client you can securely access anywhere.
Take advantage of address auto-complete when composing your email. WorldClient will display a list with email addresses from your address book that match what you are typing. The list narrows the suggestions the more you type. You can simply select the correct address from the list after typing only the first few characters.
Also, don't forget about the spell checker. WorldClient can automatically check your spelling before your message is sent. Words in question are placed at the top of a drop-down list of suggested spellings. Simply choose the correctly spelled word from the drop-down list and the correction is made. You can even create a custom dictionary by adding unknown words that are correctly spelt.
Fact or Fiction: Upgrades or Renewals Affect my MDaemon Settings
Fiction. Some customers tell us that they have avoided upgrading or renewing their MDaemon license because they believe they will loose their current settings. Whether you are renewing your license or upgrading your software for more licenses, your current MDaemon settings will not be changed. Visit the Upgrade/Renewal page to learn more.

What's new:
- MDaemon's implementation of Sender Signing Practices for DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) has been updated to the most recent IETF draft. Since DKIM has become an Internet standard, improvements in the handling of unsigned mail are being made with the improvement of Sender Signing Practices.
- MDaemon inserts various new headers into messages in a more organized fashion. With more concise and informative X-headers inserted into messages, examining messages is faster and easier than ever before.
- Several performance enhancements, including enabling MDaemon to handle many more simultaneous connections than previous versions. This is important now that the hard limit is imposed by Windows, which limits the amount of resources granted to any process.
- DomainPOP and MultiPOP now support the use of Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) when connecting to port 995. This allows MDaemon to POP email from other sources that require the use of a secure connection.
