While speaking with many of you, it is clear that 2009 was a challenging year. Small and medium businesses around the globe were not immune to the impact the financial crisis delivered to the world's economies, as many organizations focused on survival. In addition, Malware creators began to shift focus and target small-to-medium businesses more than ever. Despite the down year, 2010 should begin to reveal signs of improvement. In fact, many analysts predict that 2010 should begin to show stronger signs of economic recovery.
As the economic conditions begin to improve, the New Year will also bring new feature enhancements to all of our products. You can expect to see improved mobile device compatibility along with enhanced webmail features in the MDaemon Email Server. Alt-N's security product portfolio (SecurityPlus for MDaemon, SecurityGateway for Exchange/SMTP Servers, and ProtectionPlus for SecurityGateway) will continue to incorporate the latest features to protect against Malware. And ongoing development to deliver enhanced Outlook compatibility for customers using Outlook Connector for MDaemon are just a few things planned for 2010.

Improve the Performance of Your MDaemon Mail Server
To improve MDaemon's performance, try making the following adjustments:
• Disable Debug logging. When Debug logging is enabled, more data is written to the logs.
Much of this data is only needed for troubleshooting purposes, thus, performance may be improved
by disabling this feature.
• Cache SMTP connection failures for a specified period of time. This prevents MDaemon from needlessly
trying to reconnect to a non-responding server until a specific period of time has elapsed.
• Limit the number of maximum simultaneous connections to a single IP address.
• Limit the number of Maximum concurrent outbound SMTP sessions, and maximum outbound SMTP
messages spooled per session.

Additional performance tips:
• Configure your third-party antivirus software to omit scanning of the MDaemon directory.
Third-party antivirus software can sometimes interfere with MDaemon's performance.
• Defragment the hard drive on the MDaemon server.
• Run Disk Cleanup regularly.

New Versions of MDaemon
— Planned for 2010
The New Year will bring two new versions of the MDaemon Email Server. Version 11 is planned to launch in late January and will include enhancements to mobility features as well as additional capabilities in the WorldClient web mail application. Version 12 is planned for late summer-2010. If your MDaemon subscription is coming due, completing your renewal will be the most economical way for you to upgrade to the newer versions as soon as they are released.
Look for feature enhancements to be announced in future newsletters or access the discussions in the MDaemon Forums. If you would like to contribute to MDaemon's ongoing development, be sure to join the Beta testing community.

Outlook Connector for MDaemon
SecurityPlus 4.1.0 and Outlook Connector 2.2.4 for MDaemon are due to launch alongside the new MDaemon 11. SecurityPlus for MDaemon will feature an updated antivirus engine from Kaspersky allowing for better detection rates and overall improved performance. Outlook Connector for MDaemon will include additional performance enhancements.
